NONPROFIT BOARD MEMBERS

Needed: Board Members
Type: non-profit board / unpaid
Organization: Native Bee Society of BC
Location: anywhere in BC (Communication happens on zoom and other remote platforms so candidates from across the province are encouraged to apply)

The Native Bee Society of BC is Looking for New Board Members for 2025!

We are searching for passionate volunteers residing in British Columbia to join our passionate and dedicated Board of Directors as our Society continues to build capacity. You do not need to possess expertise in native bees to apply for these three positions.

Executive Board Member – Secretary

The Board Secretary is part of the executive committee and supports the co-chairs through scheduling and recording monthly meetings, managing memberships, and performing other duties as required to ensure the smooth operation of the Society. Full onboarding will be provided. This role offers the opportunity to learn the operations of a growing non-profit in a supportive environment.

Board Member at Large – Fundraising

As the Society continues to grow and as we work towards a BC Bee Atlas, we seek an individual with experience and/or passion for fundraising. The Society funds its activities and programs primarily through grants, campaigns, networks, donations, sponsorship, events, etc. This individual would be expected to work with other Board Members and volunteers to manage fundraising initiatives. If you’re a creative genius at promoting the work of the Society, we want to hear from you! We are particularly interested in a candidate to lead us as we apply for registered charity status.

Board Member at Large – Equity & Inclusion

We’re seeking an individual who understands the values of the Society, its strengths and weaknesses so that all levels of our organization (learners, educators, members, volunteers, governance) reflect the diversity of the bee community. We would like to hear from someone who can help ensure that people of all identities, abilities, and backgrounds feel included in opportunities to learn about bee diversity and participate in activities that promote their conservation and their ecosystems.

Commitment

Our candidates should have reliable web access and a schedule that allows you to stay connected with other board members and volunteer with the society 5+ hours monthly throughout the year. Board member responsibilities include attending monthly board meetings (on Zoom), active participation on Slack, and other committee meetings as needed. We are looking for individuals who are motivated to work on their own and also collaborate as part of a team.

All Board Members should be members in good standing with the Society and must be qualified under the Societies Act. We ask candidates to commit to a term of at least one year (Oct 2024 - Oct 2025).

All board members are expected to devote a few hours each month to accomplishing specific tasks that support the evolving needs of the Society and are in harmony with individual capacity. Board members are expected to abide by our community agreement. We use Slack and email to keep the lines of communication open and transparent. (Tutorials are available for the Slack application.)

NBSBC is committed to equity and inclusion. Members of racialized groups and Indigenous communities, persons with disabilities, persons of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to engage with diverse communities are encouraged to apply.

How to apply

Interested candidates should send a short bio and a photo (these will be added to the Candidates page on our website) along with a cover letter introducing yourself and outlining why you wish to become a Director with NBSBC. All nominations need to be received by October 14. Board elections will take place during our AGM on October 28. Register here.
