Organic/Biodynamic Intern Position

Farm: Rumar Farm

Rumar Farm is a certified Organic and certified Biodynamic fruit and vegetable farm in central Niagara. Rumar Farm is the only certified organic peach grower in Ontario, and also grows pears, apples, plums, raspberries, blueberries and features market vegetable gardens as well. Also, our small flock of chickens require occasional care. We run a 35 member CSA, attend a Saturday farmers market, run an online store for on farm sales, and we service several top notch restaurants and a few wholesalers as well.

We are offering an opportunity for learning the craft in an inclusive, equitable work environment. As a candidate, you need to be enthusiastic about sustainability in farming, and be prepared to work alongside the owner in all relevant tasks. You will be part of a small team (2-3) and should be a supportive colleague to your co-workers.

The candidate must be enthusiastic about sustainable farming! We’re offering $18.00 per hour, 30 hours a week. The job runs from April 21 to October 10. You must commit for the entire term, with hours approximately 30 hours per week, minimum 5 days per week.

The successful candidate would ideally be an outdoor enthusiast, prepared to work in all roles regarding an organic fruit and vegetable farm. From bed preparation, seeding, planting, harvesting, washing and packing. Fulfilment of online store orders, farmer’s market preparation and CSA packing and management. Very fulfilling work, for the right person.

As our intern, we will not only teach you what we know of growing highly nutritious organic foods, but the business of farming as well. You will also participate in the annual audit for Organic through Eco-cert and Demeter Biodynamic certification, gaining insight into the process.

We live within walking distance of the town of Fonthill, and a short drive to hiking and biking trails, and Niagara Falls is a 15 minute drive.
