Regenerative farming, Food forests, Agroecology

Needed: Farm managers (income sharing)
Farm: Forest Gardens
Location: Salt Spring Island, BC
Accom.: living and working on the farm

The age of fossil fuel powered civilization is rapidly coming to an end.

What comes next is up to us…

  • We wish to be in service to life through this great transition.
  • We are called to help build the foundation for resilient local communities that are based on ecologically regenerative food systems.
  • We are guided by the knowledge of our pre-industrial ancestors, the wisdom of our Indigenous elders, and the practices of modern agro-ecological land stewards.
  • We are developing a regenerative farm for the post fossil fuel era.

The farm keeps growing!

And for us to continue growing with it we need help designing, developing and managing all aspects of the farm over the season.

We currently have about 7,500 square feet of annual growing beds planted with a wide range of vegetables and supporting plants that feed both the farm team and local community.

We are converting 20 acres of previously logged forest into a mosaic of Food Forests filled with thousands of mult-functional perennial plants. Processing the existing trees into firewood, building materials, biochar and wood chips helps us make best use of the legacy of the logging and create the soil amendments needed to grow the new plants.

Soil building is at the heart of all of our growing systems, and we build soil in many different ways including compost, biochar, vermicompost and compost teas.

Forest Gardens is inviting skilled, passionate and motivated humans to apply as Farm Managers for the 2025 growing and learning season!

Help us run all aspects of the farm over the season, including:

  • Design and installation of irrigation systems
  • Design and creation of new growing areas
  • Vegetable propagation, planting, tending, harvesting & sales
  • Perennial nursery care and sales
  • Design and planting of Food Forest growing areas
  • Management of soil building systems, including vermicompost, biochar, compost tea & compost making

The nuts and bolts of the position:

  • Season runs from April 1st to October 31st, 2025
  • Income share from farm sales
  • Training in the theory and application of all aspects of farm operations & development
  • Room and board included
  • Free participation in 2025 Permaculture Design Certificate Course

What we are looking for from you:

  • Minimum 1 season practical experience in relevant aspects of regenerative agriculture
  • Available from April 1 – October 31, 2025
  • Able to lift 40 lbs comfortably
  • Willing to work a farming schedule (early mornings, evenings & weekends are sometimes necessary)
