Barista & Restaurant Jobs

Position: Barista & Restaurant Associate
Employer: Free Spirit @ Riverdale Hub
Location: Toronto ON (Greenwood & Gerrard)

Riverdale Hub is a social enterprise in Toronto’s East End that houses art galleries, co-working and event spaces, and a restaurant. The restaurant is focused on providing our customers with healthy and affordable food and non-alcoholic drinks as well as memorable experiences. Key Roles/Responsibilities:

Barista:

  • Prepare and serve coffee, tea, and specialty drinks, complete with latte art.
  • Clean, maintain, and calibrate brewing equipment and report any malfunctions.

Food & Beverage Preparation:

  • Prepare and serve menu orders (e.g., boards, salads, baked goods, smoothies, and non-alcoholic cocktails) and process payments, ensuring all safe food handling standards and procedures are followed.
  • Work with the associate to supervise and train the Food Service & Hospitality Training (FSHT) program participants in food handling and preparing menu items.
  • Ensure supplies (ingredients and packaging) are replenished and inventory levels are tracked and maintained.
  • Coordinate with the Associate to document food waste.
  • Provide support for catered events as needed (i.e., food preparation, set-up, monitoring, and tear-down).

General:

  • Ensure all Toronto Public Health regulations, health and safety, pest control, and disinfecting standards and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure tidiness, cleanliness, and organization of the restaurant and surrounding spaces.
  • Monitor equipment and report the need for repairs and maintenance to the Maintenance Coordinator.
  • Conduct marketing and social media activities to promote the restaurant and campaigns.
  • Update in-store menu and delivery platform changes.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of restaurant experience in the front of house.
  • Barista art experience is required.
  • Knowledgeable about hot-brewing equipment used to make coffee, tea, and other drinks.
  • Knowledge of Touch Bistro POS, social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Google Workspace), and food delivery apps (Ritual One, Door Dash, Skip the Dishes, Uber Eats).
  • Food preparation experience is required.
  • Bartending experience and a Smart Serve certificate is an asset.
  • Graduation from a Food and Hospitality program is an asset.
  • A valid Food Handler’s certificate is required.
  • First Aid & CPR is an asset.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and move products, equipment, and supplies (e.g., patio furniture, etc.).
  • Flexibility to work various shifts is a must.
  • Availability to work weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team, as well as independently.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Google Workspace).

Part-time hours: Up to 25 hours per week.

Salary: Starting at $22 per hour with the possibility of growth.
