COMMUNICATIONS COORDINATOR

Farms at Work is seeking a part-time Communications Coordinator with a minimum of 2 years’ experience, for our Farmland Stewardship and Land Access programs.

Responsibilities include: managing social media, newsletter, website posts and other outreach media for our programs related to farmland access, agricultural education, and landowner supports, and assisting with development of communications strategy and promotional materials for these programs.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Communications Coordinator for Farmland Stewardship and Land Access 

The Communications Coordinator is responsible for planning and undertaking external communications for Farms at Work’s Farmland Stewardship and Land Access programs, and assisting with development of communications strategy and promotional materials for these programs. Specifically, the Coordinator will manage social media, newsletter and website content and other forms of communication to owners of farmland throughout the eastern Greenbelt region.

The position reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities:

Communications and Promotion for Farmland Stewardship and Land Access (FSLA) (75%)

  • Assist in developing and executing a comprehensive communications plan to support organizational objectives and initiatives related to farm stewardship reports, agricultural landowner education and farmland access
  • Build and maintain relationships with media contacts, stakeholders, and partners to enhance the organization’s visibility and community awareness of Farms at Work’s programs related to farmland access and landowner education
  • Create compelling and persuasive content for various communication channels on these topics, including press releases, newsletters, websites, blogs, social media
  • Ensure all communications materials comply with organization standards and branding
  • Manage the organization’s social media presence related to FSLA, ensuring timely and engaging posts to interact with our supporters and grow the online and in-person engagement with our programs and services
  • Update the organization’s website content as needed, ensuring accuracy and optimizing user experience

 Administration and evaluation: (15%)

  • Fulfill communication requirements of grants and assist with grant reporting on communications aspects
  • Maintain regular statistics on engagement with online resources and social media posts
  • Assist with tracking budgets for communications costs
  • Consider recommendations for communications process improvements
  • Participate in ongoing check-in meetings and staff meetings

 Other project communications tasks: (10%)

  • Assist with other communications for Farms at Work land programs and services on occasion.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in marketing, communications, public  relations, or related/equivalent education and experience
  • Minimum 2years' experience in a marketing or communications role
  • Proven experience managing outreach across a variety of social media platforms
  • Exceptional written and oral communication, and editing skills. Given the importance of this qualification, please note that an on-the-spot writing sample will be requested during the interview.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Tech-savvy, with interest in reaching audiences in creative ways
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in MS Office 365 Suite, Zoom, Adobe, Canva, and GSuite
  • Experience with desktop publishing, graphic design and website design is an asset
  • Understanding of or interest in accessibility best practices related to online engagement and content is an asset
  • Proven ability to work independently and also in a collaborative team  environment
  • Experience or understanding of the east central Ontario farming community and/ or agricultural practices is a strong asset
