Position: Carrot Cache Coordinator (Part-Time Contract)

Salary: $1,800/month
Hours: Average 48 hours/month

Carrot Cache Community Resources Inc. supports local and sustainable food systems in Ontario through grants. We invest in initiatives that promote organic agriculture, regional food economies, food sovereignty, and worker cooperatives. Over the past decade, we’ve funded over 250 projects and are proud to support a just and thriving regional food system.

Position Overview

As the Carrot Cache Coordinator, you will manage the grant program, communicate with stakeholders, and support organizational development. You will support the Carrot Green Roof Gardener and the facilitators of occasional rooftop workshops. This role offers flexibility and the opportunity to work with passionate individuals driving food systems change in Ontario.


Key Responsibilities

Grant Management:

  • Solicit, screen, and process funding applications.
  • Maintain clear communication with applicants and provide guidance as needed.
  • Prepare summaries for the Board and address follow-up requirements.
  • Coordinate one applicant round annually and manage ad-hoc grant requests.

Internal and External Communication:

  • Act as a liaison between board members and committees.
  • Represent Carrot Cache at meetings and conferences.
  • Implement and maintain social media and website updates.
  • Act as a liaison between board members, the CGR Gardener and workshop facilitators.
  • As Carrot Cache's liaison, strengthen the relationship with The Big Carrot.

Strategic and Operational Planning:

  • Support strategic planning (held every three years).
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets.
  • Maintain records of funded projects and organizational achievements.
  • Elaborate annual workplan and provide Board with a weekly activity report.

Support Carrot Green Roof Gardener:

  • CGR Gardener works independently with support of CC Coordinator during growing season (April-October).
  • Receive CGR Gardener plans and reports and provide feedback.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in program administration and working with a Board of Directors.
  • Strong communication and writing skills (reports, letters, proposals).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Knowledge of the alternative food sector and local initiatives across Ontario.
  • Understanding of food systems, social justice issues, and sustainable agriculture.
  • Basic business and financial acumen to evaluate business plans.
  • Training starts throughout the week of Feb 18. Must be able to attend an all-day meeting Feb 25th.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with policy development, anti-racism, and equity-focused frameworks.
  • Experience in grant-making or non-profit management.

Work Environment

The role for this position is performed in the Carrot Cache office at Carrot Common. While remote working is acceptable occasionally, the majority of work will be in the office. Major workloads occur during the grant application period. Regular check-ins with the Board chair are scheduled, and the role requires effective self-management.
