EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Organization: The Table Community Food Centre
Location: Perth, Ontario

The Table Community Food Centre is seeking a visionary, community-minded, and experienced leader to become its next Executive Director. About The Table

The Table’s mission is to foster a healthier and more connected community by improving access to healthy food, improving food skills and food literacy, advocating for individual well-being, and educating, engaging and advocating social policies to address food insecurity and poverty. With a diverse team of eleven staff members, supported by a large number of volunteers, the Table provides vital programs and services to the communities of Perth and Smiths Falls. As a social justice organization, the Table is committed to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of its work and strives to challenge the root causes of food insecurity. We aim to empower marginalized groups and create an inclusive space for all members of our community.

Position Overview

The Executive Director will be responsible for the overall strategic, financial, and operational leadership of the Table. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of a social justice framework and values, particularly as they relate to food insecurity, poverty, and systemic inequality. They will be committed to embedding equity in all aspects of the organization’s work and fostering an inclusive and respectful environment for staff, volunteers, program participants, and the broader community.

The Executive Director will also possess the necessary financial and managerial skills to ensure the Table will thrive as a social justice organization. This includes experience with planning, communications, budgeting, fundraising, grant writing, human resources, and operational oversight. The Executive Director will work collaboratively with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and community partners to advance the Table's mission and goals during this critical period of organizational transition and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to ensure The Table remains focused on its mission through an equity and social justice lens.
  • Collaboration with the Board: Work closely with the Board of Directors to develop, implement, and evaluate the organization’s strategic plans and policies.
  • Financial Oversight: Manage The Table’s budget and financial operations, ensuring responsible stewardship of resources and the long-term financial sustainability of the organization.
  • Program Delivery: Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs that align with its mission, while addressing community needs.
  • Human Resources: Lead, mentor, and support staff, ensuring an inclusive workplace that values diversity and promotes professional development. This includes overseeing the recruitment, hiring, and management of staff and volunteers.
  • Fundraising & Grants: Secure funding through diverse revenue streams, including government grants, foundations, individual and business donations, and community partnerships.
  • Community Engagement: Serve as a spokesperson and advocate for the Table, strengthening relationships with stakeholders, including participants, donors, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Risk Management: Identify and manage risks related to the organization's operations and services.

Qualifications

  • A university degree or equivalent experience in social work, business administration, public policy, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in the non-profit sector, with a strong emphasis on social justice and equity.
  • Proven experience in financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and operational oversight.
  • Strong human resources management skills, with the ability to lead a small staff team and a large volunteer base.
  • Experience with facilities management, project management, and familiarity with the Request for Proposal (RFP) process.
  • A deep understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles and experience applying these principles in organizational leadership.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to engage and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • A proven track record of successful fundraising, grant writing, and partnership development.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively within a team, fostering a cooperative and supportive environment among staff, volunteers, and community partners.

Other Considerations (assets, but not required)

  • Experience working within rural communities, with a comprehensive understanding of social equities from a rural perspective and the unique challenges and opportunities of delivering services in rural settings.
  • A solid understanding of food insecurity issues and experience using food as a tool for community building, empowerment and advocacy.

Salary & Benefits

The Table offers a competitive salary range of $75,000 to $85,000, commensurate with experience. In addition, the position includes a comprehensive health plan and four weeks of paid vacation annually.
