As the Foodraising Manager (Ontario), you will lead the charge in expanding our network of food donors in Ontario. With your strong relationship-building skills and drive for results, you’ll work closely with food businesses, retailers, and foodservice partners to secure valuable surplus food and ensure it reaches those in need.

This is your opportunity to drive positive social and environmental change by playing a pivotal role in reducing food waste while supporting food security across the province.

Enter Second Harvest…

Think we're just about redirecting food surplus? Think bigger.

Here's why Second Harvest is your next career leap:

  • Pioneers in food rescue, we are a renowned leader in perishable food redistribution across Canada.
  • With a mission fueled by a no-waste, no-hunger ethos, we're not just changing the game—we're rewriting the rules.
  • Our strategic approach aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), making every day a step towards global change.

The Role:

As the Foodraising Manager (Ontario), you will lead efforts to expand and sustain our network of food donors throughout the province. You’ll focus on sourcing surplus, unsold food from midstream and upstream businesses such as producers, processors, manufacturers, distributors, and wholesalers. In addition to building and maintaining donor relationships, you will collaborate with our Retail & Foodservice team to engage regional retailers and foodservice chains, ensuring they use our innovative Second Harvest Food Rescue App. Your work will be vital in driving food donations, improving efficiency, and maintaining strong relationships with existing donors.

Your Impact:

  • Continuously improve Second Harvest’s food donor landscape by implementing strategies to attract and retain food donors.
  • Research food production landscapes and supply chains in specific regions to identify new donor prospects.
  • Travel extensively across Ontario to recruit new donors, aiming to increase the quantity, quality, and efficiency of food donations.
  • Conduct cold calls, follow up on referrals, and track outreach activities while gathering donor feedback.
  • Engage lapsed donors and those reducing their support to ensure continued, consistent donations.
  • Collaborate with regional stakeholder groups, institutions, and industry associations to promote Second Harvest’s services.
  • Assist in implementing a donor retention plan that celebrates and recognizes food donors to ensure their continued support.
  • Deliver presentations and participate in speaking engagements to increase food donor acquisition and retention.
  • Represent Second Harvest at regional trade shows and conferences, managing booth logistics and leading post-event food collections.
  • Create and submit regular reports on food recovery efforts as requested.
  • Perform other duties as required to support the overall goals of the organization.

Who You Are:

  • Enterprising: you have the initiative and drive to get the job done and can find (or build) the resources needed for any task.
  • Partnership-Minded: you’re a people person who connects easily and can leverage existing relationships to build program success. You earn trust and confidence from prospects, donors, and stakeholders.
  • Communicator: you have exceptional communication and diplomacy skills; you have a knack for making complex ideas seem clear and simple.
  • Client-Focused: you’re slightly obsessive when it comes to delivering an exceptional donor/customer experience.
  • Meticulous: you have a keen attention to detail and the ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects effectively.
  • Analytical: data is your friend; you can translate numbers into action and pave the way for efficiency.
  • Flexible: this role will require some weekend work to attend trade shows and events on behalf of Second Harvest

An interest in sustainability, food rescue and hunger relief would be considered an asset. Must be based in Ontario, Valid driver’s license, and able to travel across Ontario for meetings and fieldwork (mileage compensated if using own vehicle)
