Contract: GIS Farmland Mapping
Organization: Farms at Work
Location: Qualified candidates may live anywhere in Canada, but knowledge of east central Ontario is an asset
Who We are
Farms at Work envisions a thriving farm community in east central Ontario where innovative farms are cultivating healthy ecosystems and contributing to resilient food systems. Our mission is to lead in providing the knowledge-sharing opportunities, long-term farmland access options, and systems change that will enable new and existing farmers to bring this vision to life. We are a regional charitable not-for-profit organization based in Peterborough, ON, serving the east central region.
Project context
Alongside our other programs, Farms at Work engages with non-farming landowners to support the active use of their land for agricultural purposes through its Farmland Stewardship Program. Farmland Stewardship Reports are comprehensive documents detailing existing soil and topographic conditions, environmental risks and vulnerabilities, and recommendations towards the protection of on-farm soils, vegetation, and water sources. These Reports are designed to be accessible resources to assist landowners in the protection and enhancement of their agricultural land.
Scope of Work
Through this contract, Farms at Work requires the services of a GIS Specialist equipped to assist in the creation of customized farmland maps and geospatial analysis for a minimum of five (5) Farmland Stewardship Reports. The successful proposer will possess extensive knowledge of geographic information systems and cartographic skills. They will gather, analyze, and interpret geospatial information for applications in natural resources and agricultural land use.
