Farmers Market Manager

The Cabbagetown Farmers Market is proud to be the first organic farmers market in Toronto, creating a vibrant space where the community connects with local farmers, food producers, and artisans. We prioritize sustainability, support local agriculture, and foster a sense of community through high-quality offerings and memorable market experiences. The 2025 market season runs from May – October.

We are seeking a Market Manager who shares our passion for local food and community to oversee the day-to-day operations of the market and help us grow our impact.

Position Overview
The Market Manager is a dynamic and hands-on leader responsible for organizing and managing the weekly farmers market throughout the market season. This role ensures the market runs smoothly, maintains its values of sustainability and community, and continues to provide an enjoyable experience for both vendors and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

Market Operations

  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee all market-day operations, including vendor setup, event coordination, and cleanup.
  • Enforce market policies and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for vendors, customers, and community partners during market days.
  • Manage the logistics of physical market infrastructure (e.g., tents, signage, tables).
  • Manage and assign market day volunteers

Vendor Relations

  • Recruit and retain a diverse mix of high-quality vendors in line with the market’s organic and sustainable values.
  • Coordinate vendor contracts, permits, and fees.
  • Maintain open and constructive communication with vendors to support their success and gather feedback for improvement.

Community Engagement

  • Collaborate with the market’s Community Animator to develop and implement strategies to promote the market and increase community engagement.

Marketing and Communications

  • Oversee social media accounts during the market season, highlighting seasonal offerings and promotional efforts to drive attendance and build market visibility.
  • Track and share updates on the market’s progress and achievements with the community.

Administrative Management

  • Prepare end-of-season reports summarizing key metrics, successes, and opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications

  • Passion for local food, sustainable agriculture, and community-building.
  • Proven experience in event management, market operations, or a similar role.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a knack for building relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical stamina to perform market setup and takedown tasks.

Additional Details

  • This is a seasonal, part-time role with the majority of hours concentrated during the market season (May-October). Some off-season planning work may also be required.
  • Market days are every Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in Riverdale Park West – just outside the gates of Riverdale Farm.

Compensation

40 hours a month at $20.00 an hour
