2 x Community Gardens Facilitator- Mississauga (Seasonal Work Opportunity)

8-week contract positions at 35 hours per week

The position: Ecosource is seeking two Community Gardens Facilitators to support access to food growing spaces for residents at community garden sites across the City of Mississauga. The Community Gardens Facilitators will support garden monitoring and maintenance, gardener and volunteer engagement onsite, food production, and community-building events. The successful candidate will also work with other members of the Local Food team to deliver in-person programming to meet the diverse needs of local communities and apply an anti-racist and anti-oppression lens to garden planning and partnerships.

Responsibilities:

  • Support food production and distribution activities through the facilitation of volunteer programming.
  • Plan and facilitate community-building and public education activities both in-garden and virtually.
  • Help with regular written, verbal and in-person communication with community gardeners, volunteers, local partners, and residents.
  • Support administration processes for Ecosource’s 12 community gardens, including monitoring garden safety, maintenance and repairs, registration, and troubleshooting in-garden issues.
  • Track program-related statistics, budgets and expenses, and support reporting activities as required.
  • Collaborate with team members, community partners, and stakeholders to support programs which meet the diverse food access needs of local communities using an anti-oppression and anti-racism lens.

Qualifications:

  • Experience facilitating educational hands-on programs.
  • Organic food gardening experience (in an at-home or community setting).
  • Willingness to undertake physical tasks in an outdoor setting in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Strong project monitoring, tracking, and evaluation skills.
  • Creative approach to tasks and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice and anti-oppression principles, and an understanding of food system inequities and intersectionality.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to reliable vehicle required.
  • Due to funding requirements, the successful candidate must be 15-30 years of age.

Application Information:

This is an 8-week contract position paid at a rate of $26.00 per hour at 35 hours per week. There are two positions available, one from the end of April to June and another from July to August. Access to personal days and 6% vacation pay are included. Some evening and weekend work will be required. A Police Check will be required upon hiring.
