Job Title: Senior Coordinator, Development & Communications

Position Overview:

The Senior Coordinator of Development and Communications will work closely with the Executive Director (ED) on fundraising and communications tasks, as well as be the lead in creative graphic design of communications for all programs.

  • Effective: ASAP
  • Employment Type: 20 hours per week - Hybrid
  • Compensation: $26/hour + extended health benefits provided from start date
  • Length of Contract: 12 months (maternity leave coverage)

Scope of Work:

Fundraising:

  • Donor solicitation and relationship management, in coordination with the ED
  • Write LOIs and applications for funding, in coordination with the ED and the team
  • Assist with submitting required reports and documents in coordination with the ED
  • Use CRM for sending out donor relation emails
  • Use CRM to to track grants/donations received
  • Organize, log and update contacts using CRM
  • Management of CanadaHelps account, including utilizing tools to maximize CH channel effectiveness
  • As an organization we are committed to community centric fundraising, and this role will execute fundraising as a tool to uplift, build capacity, and ensure that our funding aligns with the greatest impact we can make at the community level.

Communications:

  • Create a social media calendar and create and post on social media on multiple platforms
  • Design flyers/ signage/ presentations/ documents/ newsletters for programming and organization
  • Updating the Building Roots website as needed with new blog posts, updated content, etc.
  • Be on site at the Building Roots location in Moss Park from time to time to attend the market, the garden, or other programming / events as needed to take photos, videos and interact with the community

Skills Needed:

  • Minimum 1-2 years of fundraising experience, with successful fundraising track record in excess of $100,000+
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience with social media channels including Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn
  • Familiarity with email marketing and donor campaigns and the strategies related to those campaigns
  • Minimum 1-2 years experience working with various web-based applications such as Google Workspace and Meta Business Suite
  • Some design knowledge and 1-2 years experience working with Canva
  • Familiarity with accessible design guidelines
  • Experience with using WordPress
  • Sound knowledge of the Canadian not-for-profit sector and a social justice orientation
  • Ability to work occasional Saturdays as needed
  • Fluency in English is required; familiarity or fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin or other languages is an asset.
  • Lived experience of the intersecting challenges that our communities face is an asset
