Farm: River Run Farm
Location: Elora, near Guelph, Ontario

• Positions available: Full time
• Hours/Days: Four day work week (Tuesday-Friday), 32 hours per week. We take an hour lunch (unpaid) as well as breaks (paid) in the day.
• Starting date: May
• End date: October
• Wage: $18-19.50/hour depending on experience.

About the farm:

River Run Farm is a one acre market garden located at Mackay Farms just outside of Elora, ON. We farm a wide variety of vegetables using organic and sustainable growing methods. We sell our produce through the Guelph Farmers' Market, a 35 member CSA, and to local restaurants. We also work with Rob at Mackay Farms who does pasture raised poultry and laying hens that are incorporated into the farm's fertility program through a moveable chicken coop. We farm using low-till methods and hand tools.

Job Details:

Farming can be very physically demanding and requires working in all the weather conditions at times. The main duties in this particular role will be to harvest, wash and pack veggies and to help with landscaping and general farm upkeep and chores. Your time will be divided between working with us in the market garden and working with Rob to help with livestock chores and property maintenance. The right candidate will enjoy doing a wide variety of outdoor tasks and will be open to learning new skills. We are a small staff of three and every member is integral; the right candidate will be someone with good communication skills, a positive attitude and experience working within a small team.

Experience:

No farming experience is necessary, just a curiosity about farming and a desire to learn. We offer $18/hour for an individual with no experience and up to $19.50/hour for an individual with prior market gardening experience.

Requirements:

While no experience is required, the right candidate will demonstrate the following:

• Willingness to learn and take direction
• Critical thinker, always seeking out ways to improve
• A team player able to work alone or in groups
• Willing to ask questions and ask for clarification
• Able to work in adverse weather conditions – if weather conditions are unsafe indoor work will be available
• Physically able to use hand tools and able to lift up to 50lbs on occasion
• Must have own transportation
