Seasonal Regenerative Farm Agripreneur

Salary: $18.54/ hr.

ClearWater Farm is an all season – purpose driven, social enterprise of The ClearWater Futures Foundation. As its signature program, we are proud to offer agripreneur opportunities in Georgina, Ontario on our regenerative farm.

The Agripreneur role is critical to the daily and seasonal success of the farm. As labour support, the role will be involved in all manual areas of farming from seeding, weeding, maintain crops and soil, and harvesting. This role requires the use of on-site farm equipment as well as daily data collection.

Key Responsibilities and Expectations:

FARM:

  • Seeding, transplanting, and harvesting vegetable crops in a timely and efficient manner
  • Weeding, watering, installing and maintaining drip irrigation, installing row cover, pruning and trellising
  • Amending and maintaining soil through tilling, adding compost, rock picking etc.
  • Learning to use farm equipment; including BCS walking tractor and direct seeder
  • Data collection and accurate recording of harvest yields

FOOD:

  • Washing and packing produce for wholesale and retail orders
  • Support cleanliness of food packaging and storage areas
  • Support retail sales for farm stand and events, set up and take down of produce before/after events

EVENTS:

  • Support farm tours and tastings
  • Participate in farm education activities

Agripreneur Advantage:

All participants in the ClearWater Farm Agripreneur program will complete the mandatory Durham College farming module one at the start of their first season on the farm. This mandatory training will ensure all agripreneurs are offered the ability to learn the best practice standards in small/ urban farming.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in small – medium size farm business; including field work.
  • Experience working in a government-funded, not for profit agency (asset).
  • Experience working with farm tools (asset).
  • Good interpersonal skills, high degree of communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Diploma, Food & Farming or Sustainable Agriculture.
  • Qualifications as set out by the Federal Government under Canada Summer Jobs.
