Role: Organic Farming Business Internship
Community: Chuckleberry Community Farm
Location: live on-site, Beasley, 15 mins west of Nelson BC

  • START DATE: Flexible, with a minimum of 1 year commitment.
  • PAYMENT: Organic meals and accommodation. Stipend $500/month + commitment completion bonus of final payment of $1000. Live within our uniquely nourishing community lifestyle.

ABOUT THE POSITION

As the Business Intern, you will learn all aspects of creating a successful organic farming business with our team of inspired individuals. You will develop relationships with all of our customers, take care of orders and invoicing, work on accounts receivable, participate in research, marketing, branding, and respond to emails and phone calls from our customers. You are skilled with computers, word processing, excel sheets, and possibly even web design and photo/video editing… You are a creative thinker and remain open to others’ perspectives – you don’t get locked into your idea of what is right/best/good. You are not only capable of, but really love to collaborate. You are skilled in keeping track of many details and making sure that as little as possible slips through the cracks. You work with focus and care. You don’t hesitate to talk about what is not working efficiently and to celebrate what works and flows. You will also learn many other skills necessary to operate an organic farm as the business team is called to support one of the other Chuckleberry teams such as the Growroom Team with planting or harvesting our crops.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • You have developed office and computer skills;
  • You are familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel and Quickbooks;
  • You have developed communication and relational skills;
  • You have an earnest interest in your personal/spiritual growth and in exploring your deeper nature;
  • You are dedicated to finding a balance between your passion for outer success with a deep connection to your inner world;
  • You are interested in learning to work as a team leader;
  • You are able to maintain focus and motivation in self-supervised workflows;
  • You experience sincere enjoyment of productive and efficient work that can be very physical at times.

YOU WILL LEARN TO:

  • Create and maintain important relationships with clients and suppliers;
  • Prepare order sheets and invoices;
  • Keep track of farm accounting;
  • Program watering schedules;
  • Build organic soil from scratch;
  • Make a bokashi compost system, and use it;
  • Prepare beds for planting;
  • Harvest, care for and market microgreens.

WORK HOURS: interns work five days per week, from 8:30 am to 12 pm and 1 pm to 3:30 pm, with lunch prepared in-house. You will work a total of 30 hours per week, as well as participate in 2 hours of Emotional Intelligence Training and Community Creation Circle each week.

We offer the opportunity to commit for 1 year with a Work Exchange trial period preceding the beginning of the contract so you can feel certainty about your choice.
