Hiring: Seasonal Culinary Farm Assistant
Farm & Retreat Centre: Crieff Hills Retreat Centre
Location: south of Guelph, Ontario

Crieff Hills Retreat Centre provides opportunities for rest and renewal to both groups and individuals from all walks of life. Located on an historic 250-acre farm, facilities include a dining room, meeting rooms, three lodges and four retreat houses as well as private retreat suites. Farm assistants will work closely with the Culinary Farm Manager who is committed to providing an excellent learning environment, linking agricultural science with the art, craft and philosophy of regenerative farming.

Approximate length of employment: late March to late October.

Growing

• Assist with production and harvest according to the guest calendar and chef requests
• Work with local forager to harvest plants from on site forests

Livestock

• Daily chores for sheep, pigs, quail, cattle, meat birds and hens
• Assist with honeybee management and harvest

Community Engagement

• Participate in on-site farm events when required
• Participate in social media when required
• Represent Crieff Hills to guests, neighbours and vendors in a professional manner

Production/Sales

• Attend community markets to help with setup, sales and customer service
• Participate in small CSA program
• Work with other staff to coordinate and stock farmgate sales

Property and Equipment

• Use organic amendments and pest control strategies alongside farm manager
• With Farm Manager and Property Manager, help maintain fences and waterlines
• Use and care for farm equipment with excellent safety and maintenance standards

Staff and Communication

• Attend staff meetings and maintain open communication with all other staff
• Promote teamwork and a positive attitude
• Be kind
