Hiring: Organic farming – Farm Worker (Field Crew) - Vegetables and Flowers
Farm: Terramor Farm

Eligibility: Role is specifically for a grant, applicant must be under 30 and a Canadian Citizen

Location: near Burnstown, west of Ottawa, near Arnprior & Renfrew, Ontario
Housing: No onsite living available. Own transportation required.

About Terramor Farm:

Terramor Farm is a profitable small-scale farm located in Burnstown just 50 minutes west of Ottawa.

We use bio-intensive farming practices and mostly hand tools to cultivate 3 acres of land. We produce over 30 varieties of high quality, organic vegetables as well as a 1/4 acre of cut-flowers for our +100 member CSA program, high-end restaurants and 3 farmers markets. We have shaped our profitable small scale farm through investing heavily in education, employing the top contemporary growing techniques learned from online courses: Floret Farm (Erin Benzekein) and The Market Gardener Masterclass (Jean Martin Fortier). Staff will have an opportunity to see how these methods are implemented to make an efficient and profitable small scale operation run. Staff will work in all aspects of production: nursery planting, transplanting, irrigation, weeding, field management, pest managament, harvesting, packaging and farmers market sales.

Terramor Farm is looking for an individual who is interested in working outdoors in a fast paced, upbeat work environment! 

Job Description:

As a Field Worker at Terramor Farm, you will be an essential part of the farm’s operations, assisting in the cultivation of both flowers and vegetables. This role requires a passion for sustainable farming, attention to detail, and a team-oriented attitude. You will work closely with the farm team to maintain high-quality production and ensure smooth daily operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Field Cultivation: Assist with planting, weeding, harvesting, and maintaining flowers and vegetable crops, ensuring consistent and healthy growth.
  • Soil Management: Help prepare soil beds and amend soil
  • Crop Maintenance: Perform routine tasks such as cultivating, weeding, irrigating and general tasks related to crop care
  • Harvesting & Packing: Harvest flowers and vegetables according to farm specifications, and assist with post-harvest processing and packing for market and restaurants
  • Greenhouse Work: Assist with planting, maintaining, monitoring and harvesting greenhouse crops
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively with other farm team members, contributing to a positive work environment and supporting other tasks as needed.
  • Seasonal Tasks: Participate in seasonal tasks such as preparing beds, managing harvests, and setting up greenhouses for specific crops.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Previous experience in farming or agriculture (especially with flowers and vegetables) is preferred but not required.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to work long hours in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks (lifting, bending, digging, etc.).
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for quality, ensuring that crops are maintained and harvested to high standards.
  • Team-Oriented: Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with a diverse team.
  • Problem Solving: Ability to quickly identify issues with crops or equipment and work to resolve them.
  • Passion for Agriculture: A genuine interest in sustainable farming and a willingness to learn about different farming practices.
  • Work Ethic: Self-motivated with the ability to follow instructions, stay organized, and complete tasks efficiently.

Positions Available: FT (May-November)
Responsibilities: Wash/Pack, cultivating, weeding, planting, harvesting, irrigation and general farm tasks for both vegetables and flowers
Hours: Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday; 8am – 4pm. (start times vary throughout the season)
Starting Wage: $17.55/hr (negotiable based on experience)
Beneficial experience includes but not limited to: farm work, outdoor work, administration, leadership/management
Vacation/Sick Pay: 2.5%

Must have a valid drivers license.

No onsite living available.
