SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
The Greenhouse Labourer Supervisor will report to the Manager. They will be responsible for overseeing the planting, watering, weeding, soil health monitoring, harvesting, composting, produce selling, general maintenance, and other tasks as required at the greenhouse. They will work closely with the greenhouse labourers to ensure that the community garden tasks are completed in a timely manner.
HOURS OF WORK AND PAY
- This is a funded position open to youth ages 15-30, eligible to work in Canada.
- This position will be 30 hours per week and the pay rate will be $25 per/hour. Any hours of overtime must be approved by the Greenhouse Manager before they are taken.
- This position has a flexible start date in April or early May 2025 and runs to August 31st, 2025.

- Note that the employees wages and work are subject to funding availability, seasonal need, and job responsibilities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greenhouse Operations
- Oversee planting, watering, composting, and maintenance associated with all growing for the season
- Oversee selling produce to the community at local markets each week and veggie box subscriptions
- Supervision of Greenhouse Labourers
- Take on a leadership role in supervising greenhouse labourers, training them in garden-specific tasks
- Provide support to greenhouse labourers throughout the season
- Facility & Equipment Maintenance
- Provide general maintenance work around the greenhouse
- Maintain the inner and outer area of the greenhouse
- Client Service & Administration
- In collaboration with the Coordinator, work to support greenhouse members, community members, and clients to provide the best possible service to our community
- Deliver tours of the greenhouse when needed
- Greenhouse Marketing & Promotion
- Encourage participation in the greenhouse through promotion in the community
- Post about upcoming markets and other initiatives at the greenhouse via social media platforms
- Other Tasks
- Help in the Greenhouse Cafe
- Assist with programming and events at the greenhouse
The incumbent may be required to perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Some knowledge of plants (local or otherwise) and an enthusiasm for working with plants in the Greenhouse environment.
Skills & Abilities:
1. Communications Skills
- Good communication skills, including the ability to listen actively, respond verbally in a manner that is clear and respectful, seek clarity and ask questions when things are unclear.
- Client service orientation, including the ability to consistently approach situations in a professional manner and respond appropriately to inquiries, requests and concerns.
2. Interpersonal Abilities
- Ability to motivate, coach and manage performance to achieve results within a complex environment of opportunities, challenges, and constraints.
- Teamwork and relationship-building skills including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, Board members, internal and external clients, and potentially community residents, and other stakeholders.
3. Organisational Skills
- Ability to work well with ‘to-do’ lists, and prioritise time to complete projects at hand.
- Flexibility, including the ability to adapt and work effectively within a variety of situations and with various individuals or groups.
- Ability to create and follow through with plans as outlined by peers, employers and board members.
4. Other Skills
- An understanding of local cultures and gardening in northern climates would be considered assets.
- Food Safety Training, Class 5 Drivers Licence, and First Aid Training would be considered assets.

Other Requirements:
- Ability to work weekends and extended hours (hours vary seasonally based on plant production and operational needs).
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Outdoor field work is required.
- Ability to work daily in contact with plants, plant pollen, dust and soil.
- Relevant experience and educational equivalencies will be considered.
