Sustainable land use, organic farming and gardening education

Hiring: EDUCATION & ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR

Earthwise Society is a not-for-profit environmental education organization operating a destination learning resource on sustainable land use, located in Agassiz BC.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Education and Engagement Coordinator who will play a key role in planning and implementing a series of educational experiences on a wide range of sustainable land use initiatives at the Agassiz site and building community awareness about our mission and programs. Responsibilities include:

Education

  • As part of a team, increase the range of community and educational program offerings at Earthwise
  • Deliver hands-on educational programs on organic farming and sustainable land use for children and adults
  • Coordinate the delivery of a land-based learning program for school groups

Community Engagement

  • As part of a team, implement communications and marketing plans to raise organizational visibility. advance the society’s profile in the community and increase active engagement
  • Liaise with partner agencies, grow and strengthen community networks
  • Plan and implement community events and fundraising activities, Increase revenue streams from community engagement, donations, sponsorship
  • Diversify and increase use of site resources for venue rental and other community activities
  • Increase volunteer engagement and retention, including corporate work parties
  • Attend outreach and networking events in the community
  • Coordinate monthly meetings for the Agassiz Harrison Food Coalition
  • Track and record visits/participation, feedback and deliverables; report to funders
  • Ensure that the site is maintained as a destination learning resource to be clean, safe, and inviting to visitors

Farming and Food Security

  • As part of a team, coordinate operations for ½ acre Community Growing and Sharing Farm and carry out farming tasks as required
  • Assist with sales initiatives including agritourism, CSA, direct sales and farm store; record sales and prepare documentation
  • Coordinate a Harvest Box program from planting and maintaining crops to harvesting and sharing through the Agassiz Harrison Food Coalition
  • Assist with implementing strategies to extend the growing season through crop selection, storage, and winter farming techniques

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-secondary education in a related field
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including community engagement, networking, and awareness building
  • Experience in the delivery of educational programs for children and adults
  • Experience with growing food, farming or organic gardening
  • Experience with fund-raising in a not for profit environment an asset
  • Be self-motivated, flexible, and work well independently and as part of a team

TERMS

This is a full-time position, 35 hours per week through Nov 30 2025. The position may be extended or renewed based upon the availability of funding and a positive performance review. Weekend work will be required.

The position is located in Agassiz, BC. Accommodation may be available.

The wage for this position is $25-$27/hr depending on experience.
