Job Title: Assistant Farm Manager
Organization: The PACT Program
Location: PACT Grow-to-Learn Urban Farm @ Thistletown CI, 20 Fordwich Crescent, Etobicoke

The PACT Grow-to-Learn Program

The PACT Grow-to-Learn Program and Food Security Initiative (GTL) teaches, feeds, and provides 1.8 acres of safe, outdoor learning and growing space to thousands of individuals each year. Our school yard gardens offer collaborative, hybrid learning opportunities for students and community members to learn about food, gardening, and sustainable food systems.

Main Tasks: Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of a 1 acre Urban Farm @ Thistletown CI (20 Fordwich Crescent, Etobicoke)

Job Description (duties include, but are not limited to):

  • Weeding, planting, pruning, companion planting, cover cropping, and general maintenance of GTL’s Urban Farm at TCI
  • Harvesting of a variety of vegetables and fruit
  • Assisting with garden planning and programming tasks
  • Assist with the general maintenance of GTL’s other Urban Farms (when required)
  • Assist with Urban Farm related communications activities (ex. Social media posts, newsletter updates, exc.)
  • Outdoor housekeeping duties related to job site

Qualifications:

  • Food growing experience in a market garden context is preferred, but candidates with gardening or other horticulture related experience will be considered
  • Willingness to work outside, performing repetitive tasks (weeding, harvesting)
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to follow instructions, ability to multitask
  • Positive attitude, excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Experience working with diverse communities
  • Those with anti-racism and anti-oppression training are preferred, or must be willing to learn and take part in organizational training in these areas
  • Candidates from under-represented communities encouraged to apply
  • Candidates from Etobicoke/ Rexdale encouraged to apply

Job Requirements:

  • Physical work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Manual dexterity, repetitive bending, kneeling
  • Ability to lift up to 45lbs
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time

Anticipated Start Date: April 2025
End date: October 31st, 2025 (extension may be available based on funding)

Rate of Pay: $22.00
Hours per week: 40
